Samuel Gerstein

Samuel is a freshman studying Computer Science. His background is in the field of computational sustainability, where he researches machine learning algorithms for power grid optimization. He hopes to expand contextual engineering practices to the data science field, especially when it comes to algorithmic biases, green computing, and community access to computing infrastructure. Samuel is currently supporting the design of water and power systems for the Navajo Nation. He is also involved with UIUC’s Disaster Relief and Resilience team, where he is working with a local nonprofit in Puerto Rico.
